Design and illustration goals
Create a fresh visual using the company’s existing visual identity.
Visualize waste separation through flat, but expressive illustrations.
Ensure information hierarchy and legibility for screens.

Decisions
I went with sketching some pieces of commonly recycled materials, such as plastics, aluminum, and paper. I creative vectors by drawing curves over the outlines, and cutting the shapes for inner lines. The end result is semi-transparent (as the inner lines are cuts), airy, and expressive.

The company’s color palette already uses colors that best represents categories of recyclables. I used them accordingly, but somewhat freely, allowing the playful rhythm between the figure and the ground, as well as unexpected negative space.

The flat paper is chosen in order to nest the necessary message text. The company’s typography is already a clean sans serif that allows a great readability.

Most importantly, the day and time are made in yellow as visual anchors.
